August 2021 Business of the Month: Roxy's Salon and Spa

Roxy’s Salon and Spa is a Green focused salon that stays up to date with the latest trends but respects our community’s health and the planet at the same time. Established in 2010, business owner, Roxy Cantwell, started this business by following her heart and passion. However, it was no easy feat. 

Born and raised in Marion, New York, Roxy went to beauty school and bounced around in a few salons until she realized that being a business owner was a better suit. One of her long commutes led her to start renting her own business in Walworth. But renting her very own space was just the beginning. Roxy has had hard lessons learned as a hairstylist and as a business owner. Through these trials, she kept going. 

Naturally, her momentum grew to something very big and high in demand for Walworth and the surrounding area. It was only last year when Wayne County was mandated to shut down for 9 weeks because of COVID-19, that Roxy actually took a real break. It was something that was long overdue. She was able to rest and create new ideas for her business. From that lesson, she advises, “If you are not taking the time off, you will not be your best for yourself and your team.”

Even with the needed break, her success still sky-rocketed, and she could not have done it without her best friend, Meagan, and her sister, Amanda. The business has since hired more employees so that Roxy can eventually work less and focus on her family life. She has truly reached every entrepreneur’s dream. Maximizing both monetization and freedom. A word of wisdom to future entrepreneurs in this field of work, “It is tough work as an owner but it is so rewarding seeing your vision come to life. Do not give up!”

When asking Roxy why she chose to stay in Wayne County, “I love Wayne County. These little towns are community-oriented, and are all about supporting local."

Roxy’s Salon and Spa is a Chamber Member of the Western Wayne Chamber of Commerce and is our August’s Business of the Month. She has been a dedicated member since 2018. She advises other aspiring entrepreneurs, “ It is hard work, and you have to keep learning as well as have fun. There are so many avenues once you follow your passion. The possibilities are endless.”

I have had the pleasure of interviewing Roxy and learned that she is genuine and a very humble business owner.
